Psalm 142:7
- "Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for Thou shalt deal bountifully with me."
Psalm 31:8 - "And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: Thou hast set my feet in a large room."
Psalm 143:11 - "Quicken me, O Lord, for Thy name's sake: for Thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble."
Psalm 13:6 - "I will sing unto the Lord, because He hath dealt bountifully with me."
Psalm 116:7 - "Return unto Thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee."
Psalm 119:17 - "Deal bountifully with Thy servant, that I may live, and keep Thy word."
Do you sometimes feel like your current troubles have you imprisoned with no way out?
Do you feel as though you are surrounded by enemies and don't know how to escape?
Is your present condition like a prison that has you trapped?
David knew what it was like to feel trapped in his circumstances. That is why in the various Psalms he mentioned his soul being in "prison" or "trouble" or being shut up into the hand of the enemy. These were real situations that he encountered.
Nonetheless, one thing about it - he always knew who to go to for Deliverance. He always turned to the One and Only Deliverer - the Lord Jesus Christ.
In Psalm 142:7, he cried out to God - "Bring my soul out of prison..."
Again, in Psalm 143:11 he earnestly prayed - "...for Thy righteousness' sake, bring my soul out of trouble."
The "prison" David referred to was likened unto a dungeon or an enclosure of some sort. Physically, he never was in prison per se. However, in his soul - his emotions, his passions and appetites, and his thoughts - he felt as though he was shut up or enclosed. He felt as though his entire emotional being was entrapped in a dungeon so to speak.
Have you ever felt this way?
Have you ever felt as though your troubles, adversities, distresses, and tribulations were holding you in "prison"?
Have you ever felt as though you were in the dungeon of despair where escape was out of the question?
All around you were straits, distresses, tightness, adversity, anguish, tribulation, and trouble.
What did you do?
David did what he always knew to do -
He cried out to the Lord for Deliverance - "Bring my soul out of prison ..."
Deliver me, O Lord of my life.
Lead me out, O God of my circumstances.
Cause me to come out of the distress and anguish - this "prison" - O Mighty Redeemer!
Psalm 31:8 - Because David acknowledged the Lord in all of his ways, he never, ever found himself - "shut...up into the hand of the enemy."
Psalm 31:8 - At times he may have felt as though he was imprisoned in Satan's dungeon, but because he always turned to the Lord in his distress, he was able to boldly declare - "And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: Thou hast set my feet in a large room."
God will always furnish a "way of escape."
He will cause the Child of God who calls upon His name to "hold his ground" against the enemy of his soul.
He will cause him to stand upright and remain standing and even provide him with enlargement for his soul. He will furnish an open space, a large place - freedom and liberty if you will - escape from Satan's hand or power for all those who call upon His name.
Praise God! Praise God! Praise God!
You may feel like a dead man, O Child of God, with all of your hopes almost dead within you.
You may feel like you are ready to sink or yield to the power of the enemy.
You may feel like giving up.
Why not do as David did?
Psalm 142:7 - Cry out to God with all that is within you- "Bring my soul out of prison..."
Psalm 143:11 - "...for Thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble."
Psalm 143:11 - "Quicken me, O Lord, for Thy name's sake."
As He did for David, God will answer your earnest prayer.
He will "quicken " you.
He will enliven you to do His Will.
He will restore you to life and health.
He will revive you, restore you, and give you life - His Resurrection Power - and hope in order to face your circumstances.
Psalm 143:11 - "for Thy names' sake."
Psalm 142:7 - "...that I may praise Thy name..."
In all of his prayers, David had an eye to God for Deliverance out of his troubles. He had a heart that was after God. He didn't pray merely for his own sake, but he always prayed that he would have occasion more abundantly to praise and honor God. He saw his circumstances as an opportunity for God to be glorified.
O Child of God, is this how you see your present circumstances?
Are you including in your prayers of Deliverance the phrases "for Thy name's sake" and "for Thy righteousness' sake"?
Are you looking for and earnestly expecting God to be honored, glorified, and revealed to all through your troubles?
Then, the Best is yet to come! Expect it!
Psalm 142:7 - As God did for David, He will do for you - "...for Thou shalt deal bountifully with me."
He will give grace.
He will show forth His Divine Favor.
He will deal kindly and favorably.
He will show forth His Mighty Benefits.
He will recompense life, freedom, joy, and gladness for deep, long and continued oppression and sorrows.
Psalm 13:6 - You will be able to declare as David did - "I will sing unto the Lord, because He hath dealt bountifully with me."
Psalm 116:7 - "Return unto Thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee."
Your soul which was once in "prison," facing "troubles" of all sorts, will now find "rest" - tranquility, calmness, peace, and freedom from alarm. Those hopeless feelings will give way to a "new song of praise to the Lord."
Psalm 119:17 - You will feel revived, restored, and recovered with a new zeal to do God's Will - "Deal bountifully with Thy servant, that I may live, and keep Thy word."
What encouragement there is for the Christian!
Cry out to God today!
He will turn your mourning into dancing.
He will bring you out of the "prison" of your circumstances into a "large room" and fill your mouth with laughter and singing.
He will "deal bountifully with you."
For His Name's Sake and for His Righteousness' Sake, He will bless you today.
